AWARD: 2022 MASTER BUILDERS QUEENSLAND HOUSING & CONSTRUCTION AWARDS
HOUSING CATEGORY - WEATHERTEX EXCELLENCE IN SUSTAINABLE LIVING AWARD

Ubuntu House provides connections for its occupants with: the changes of light, breezes, sun and rain throughout the day and the seasons; native flora and fauna; the surrounding community; and the history of the site.

It achieves this by working to a set of holistic sustainable design principles including: climatic design that works with the seasons to create comfortable indoor and outdoor spaces, maximising use of natural light, low energy materials, recycling of materials (from the previous house), self-sufficiency in water and energy, restoration of the environment with native/edible landscapes as well as the capture and infiltration of overland water flows, multi-functional habitation that can function for a family or separate households or for working from home, and community building through its street corner “pocket park” shared by the occupants and the public.

For the owner this is her “forever home” and the result show her commitment to this ideal.
